Baby girl nursery decor inspiration
As it turns out, I’m writing this post as I am 28 weeks pregnant with baby girl #2! But since I haven’t had the chance to post a nursery tour, here we are!
It’s easily my favorite room in our house. I love how cozy it is, and despite the mix of patterns, it’s just so serene to be in.
In the planning phase of her nursery, I wanted it to feel calm and cozy, but also have a cottage-inspired feel to it. I also knew I wanted patterns and pink. I wanted it to feel magical and a little nostalgic!
I also wanted her nursery to have items and decor that would work as she (and now her sister too) grow up. I’m planning on adding some more twinkle lights or lanterns, but so far I really do love how it turned out!
Nursery items: when to save and when to splurge
When it comes to picking out everything for your nursery, it’s easy to get overwhelmed!
Our thinking was there are some nursery items we were comfortable with splurging on and others we preferred a more budget-friendly option.
Now that our nursery picks are said and done, the only thing I would do differently is go for a slightly wider/bigger glider which I go into more below.
Here is a breakdown of where we splurged and saved and why
You can find links to everything at the end of this post!
- Crib: We spent a little bit more for two reasons:
- #1: It’s a 4-in-1 crib which means we can use it all the way through toddlerhood. So, while we spent a little more upfront, we’ll save money in the long run.
- #2: It’s GREENGUARD Gold Certified and painted with nontoxic paint.
- Mattress: We definitely splurged on this. We 100% wanted a non-toxic, natural, and organic mattress since she spends so much time on it.
- Area Rug: Happy to go budget-friendly. And thank goodness for Loloi rugs being affordable, beautiful, so soft, and good quality!
- Glider: Also happy to save here. It is on the narrow/small side. We picked it because I’m short and our daughter’s nursery is small. With that said, it still works just fine! If I were to do it over, I would probably get a glider that is more spacious, but not because of the quality of this one.
- Dresser + Nightstand: We were lucky enough to have these gifted from my parents, but I do think these are worth the splurge if you can afford it. They are beautiful pieces, extremely well built, and you will have them forever.
- Baby Monitor: *Not pictured but worth the mention! – Gosh there are some expensive monitors out there! We went with this budget-friendly option (here’s their split screen one), and we could not be happier with it!
- Changing pad and cover: Budget-friendly. All the way.
- Diaper pail: *Not pictured but worth the mention! I felt like everyone I talked to recommended this one. I’m sure others are just fine, but one of my friends gave me this sage advice: “buy a diaper pail that can use regular trash bags – not one where you need to buy special ones because that will be one more thing you need to keep track of/can run out of!”
Paint color for baby girl’s nursery
Originally, I wanted to paint her nursery a more dramatic, dusty pink. But, after testing a few swatches, I wasn’t sold.
I never thought I would go with grey, but low and behold, we landed on Modern Grey by Sherwin Williams.
I will say that I don’t think these photos do this paint color justice! During the day (when I took these photos), it looks like a pretty basic grey, but in the morning and evenings, as the sun is coming up/setting, the color transforms into the most beautiful and cozy grey with lavender and pink undertones.
Plans for when baby girl #2 arrives!
She’ll be in our room in the beginning, but eventually she’ll share a room with her older sister (which is still so surreal for me to say!).
We registered for the same crib and hopefully it will fit on the other side of the dresser (where the lilac chair and growth ruler currently is).

- Rug: My good friend has this same rug in her daughter’s nursery. When I saw it, it was love at first sight. It’s so soft and even prettier in person!
- Crib
- Mattress
- Quilt: Handmade by my aunt, but all of these are swoon-worthy.
- Rabbit stuffy
- Vintage floral prints on canvas: These prints were a gift, so I used Mod Podge to attach them to canvas (post on how to do this coming soon!). This similar vintage print is so beautiful. And here is a post on the best place on the internet to buy affordable art!
- Glider and ottoman with storage
- Faux fur hide: Save and splurge
- Pink velvet pom pom blackout curtains: Okay, I love these sooo much! They’re super soft, heavy duty, and do a pretty good job of making her room dark (during the summer, I also an additional blackout curtain up to help make her room darker). And the poms are just too adorable.
- Dresser + Night Stand
- Hatch sound machine: Pro tip: Bring to the hospital with you to avoid overhead lightening during overnight feeds!
- Picture frame
- Drawer organizer cubes: I use these to keep my daughter’s clothes organized and I label them for easy access.
- Wicker basket
- Growth chart ruler: DIY (post coming soon!), but here’s an option from ETSY.
- Lilac Anywhere Chair with name: We bought the “my first” size, but I wish we would have got the kids size!
- Decorative coiled rope storage basket: These are so handy! I use this to put clothes that she’s outgrown in, which I eventually put back in storage for baby girl #2. I also have two more by the front door for coats and shoes, and another in our living room as a catch-all for toys and books.
- Changing pad
- Changing pad cover: Did you know Burt’s Bees has a baby line?! All things baby from Burt’s Bees is great quality and organic!
- Lamp with gingham pleated lamp shade: DIY (post coming soon!) but this one or this one would look so sweet.
- Framed animal alphabet cross stitching: My mom made this for my daughter. Here is the pattern.
- Mini heart painting on canvas
- Fabric bunting: DIY, but ETSY has some cute ones!
